Germany: 937 B-17 Fortress, escorted by 900 fighters (24 planes lost), RAID BERLIN setting fire to 5 sq km in central districts (2,267t of bombs); Tempelhof marshalling yards and Airport seriously damaged; 1,000 killed, inc. Judge Roland Freisler, fanatical head of ‘People’s Court‘.
