Japanese withdraw from Aitape sector towards Wewak.

AIR WAR: PACIFIC
USAAF begins 7 month bombardment of Iwo Jima.

MARINAS
Americans secure Guam. Small groups of Japanese hide in the jungle; last man does not surrender until 1972!
