US C-in-C General Pershing with French troops.
World War One Diary for Tuesday, April 2, 1918:

Western Front

USA: Pershing agrees to brigade troops with British and French.
Artois: British 32nd Division recaptures Ayette south of river Scarpe.
Somme: British Fifth Army renamed Fourth.

Air War

Western Front: RAF claims 11 German aircraft shot down (8 south of Somme), but Germans admit no losses and claim 16 kills. McCudden (57 victories) awarded Victoria Cross.
