The old cruiser ‘Niobe’ was commissioned in 1900. The ship was sold to Yugoslavia in 1925 (Bundesarchiv, picture 101I-185-0116-27A / Arndt / CC-BY-SA 3.0 from 1941), then captured by the Italians and after their surrender put back into service with a mixed German-Croatian crew.
