Eastern Front

Stalingrad: Russians throw back Hoth’s Stalingrad relief force from river Myshkova to river Aksay (December 24) and Kotelnikovo (December 29).

Africa

French Northwest Africa: Admiral Darlan assassinated by French fanatic in Algiers. French authorities apprehend the assassin and execute him (December 26).
Tunisia: Brigade of Guards capture ‘Longstop Hill’ (Djebel Ahmera) near Medjez; severe German counter-attacks force them to withdraw, December 27.

Air War

Pacific: Hawaii-based B-24 Liberator bombers of 7th AF start big fires on Wake Island.
