WW2 War Diary for Friday, December 4, 1942:

Air War

Mediterranean: B-24 Liberators of 9th USAAF bomb Naples; fast cruiser Muzio Attendolo sunk, 2 other Italian cruisers and 4 destroyers damaged; railway installations hit. Casualties: 159 killed, 358 injured.
9 Blenheim Mk. V light bombers, led by Wing-Commander Malcolm, Victory Cross, attack Chouigui landing ground (Tunisia); 50 Me 109 fighters annihilate the unescorted bombers. Thereafter all RAF bombing operations over Tunisia are carried out at night.

Sea War

Mediterranean: 3 Italian battleships subsequently leave Naples for La Spezia (Northern Italy).
