Whirlibombers
The Westland Whirlwind was Britain’s pioneer attempt to develop a twin-engined fighter, but only two squadrons use it. Nick-named ‘Whilrlbombers’, they flew mainly ‘Rhubarb’ offensive sweeps against the coastal areas of Western Europe, carrying two 500-lb bombs.

Sea War

Norwegian submarine Urred disappears off Bodo.
RAF ‘Whirlibombers’ hit German disguised raider Coronel as she attempts to break out into the Atlantic. Coronel puts into Boulogne.
