Tunisia: Germans move out of Pont du Fahs, south of Medjez and capture ‘Two Tree Hill’.

Eastern Front

Fourth Battle of Kharkov: Russians drive two large salients into German lines west of river Don, capturing Kursk and Kharkov, but Manstein counter-attacks and recaptures Kharkov (January 13-March 26).

Air War

Germany: First of eight RAF night raids in January on the Ruhr; 101 RAF bombers attacking Essen and dropping 326t of bombs.
