French Northwest Africa: British and American Chiefs of Staff decide to carry out Operation Torch (formerly ‘Super-Gymnast’) – seaborne invasion of Vichy French North Africa, led by General Eisenhower – thereby opening a ‘Second Front’ in Africa.

Air War

Germany: 252 RAF bombers attacking Duisburg and dropping 577t of bombs.
