 British troops had occupied Iceland
As early as 1940 British troops had occupied Iceland to ease the supplies across the Atlantic.
WW2 War Diary for Saturday, June 17, 1944:

Occupied Territories

Iceland: Independent republic founded with Sveinn Bjornsonn as president after plebiscite (97% in favour). Union with Denmark ended.

Sea War

Mediterranean: French land on Elba from 37 PT boats which penetrate dense mine fields (Germans surrender June 19).
