Eastern Front

Central Sector: 3rd BRF and supporting tank army, begin crossing river Berezina. Field Marshal Busch dismissed from Army Group Centre; Field Marshal Model, commander of Army Group North Ukraine, to command both Groups.

Western Front

Normandy: British 2nd Army crosses river Odon, southwest of Caen.

Occupied Territories

France: Philippe Henriot, Vichy Minister of Information and Propaganda, shot dead by the Resistance.
