WW2 War Diary for Friday, June 9, 1944:

Eastern Front

Northern Sector: GREAT RUSSIAN OFFENSIVE ON FINNISH FRONT. 21st and 23rd Armies attack with air support along 14-km-wide coastal sector of Karelian Isthmus. 3,000 guns obliterate Finnish advance positions, but Russian tanks make little progress by nightfall.

Western Front

Normandy: Americans from ‘Utah’ beachhead capture Ste Mere-Eglise.

Home Front

Italy: Badoglio (Co-Belligerent) resigns as Premier to allow formation of new government (by Bonomi).
