Western Front

Montgomery’s 4 bridge­heads over the Rhine merge into 48­-km-wide salient. 3rd US Army captures Darmstadt and Hanau.

Russian Front

Hungary: Malinovsky breaks through west of Budapest, crossing river Hron and capturing Esztergom.

Air War

Pacific: 5th USAAF B-24 Liberator bombers destroy hydro-electric power station on Formosa. First Kamikaze attack on US warships near Okinawa.
Germany: 8th USAAF B-24 Liberator bombers attacking underground oil stores at Hamburg.
606 RAF bombers attacking Hanover, Münster and Osnabrück.

Home Fronts
