Africa

Tunisia – BATTLE OF MEDENINE: in his last battle in Africa, Rommel attacks 8th Army but is defeated (Montgomery warned before by ‘Ultra’) with heavy losses from anti-tank guns.

Sea War

Atlantic : BIGGEST CONVOY BATTLE OF THE WAR. U-boat wolfpack attacks convoys SC.121, HX.228, SC.122, HX.229 (March 6-20) sinking 21 ships totalling 140,842 t. 4 U-boats destroyed. Cdre. Birnie of SC.121 lost with his ship.
