France­: 17 British conscientious objectors refuse Army orders outside Le Havre.

Western Front

Verdun: German assault on Hill 287. French counter-attack at Mort Homme.

Southern Fronts

Salonika: Milne in command of British Salonika Army (for duration of war); Sarrail occupies Greek frontier Fort Dovatepe between Vardar and Stuma.

Air War

Sudan: 2 Royal Flying Corps planes and airfield ready at Abaid for operations against Sultan of Darfur.

Neutrals

Greece: French general Sarrail occupies Greek frontier Fort Dovatepe.
