Air War

Western Europe – IJMUIDEN RAID: Formation of 10 B-26 Marauders annihilated by anti-aircraft guns and Me 109 Gs during low-level raid on power station. 8th US Air Force then successfully transfers this type to medium-altitude missions with strong fighter escort.
Britain: Night raid on Cardiff by 89 aircraft (6 lost).

Spain: Disastrous fire at El Ferrol naval base; 3 cruisers and 2 destroyers seriously damaged.
