Africa

East Africa: LETTOW enters Abercorn and SURRENDERS in hollow square to Brigade-General Edwards. German force comprises Gouverneur Schnee; 20 officers; 6 doctors; 1 vet; 1 chemist; 1 field telegraph officer; 125 German NCOs (including at least 15 Koenigsberg crew); 1,156 Askaris; 1,598 carriers plus women and children. Lettow hands over 1 Portuguese gun (40 shells); 37 MGs (7 German); 1,071 rifles (mainly British and Portuguese with 208,000 rounds).

Western Front

Marshal Petain enters Strasbourg. Canadians reach the Meuse at Namur.

Sea War

North Sea: 5 German battleships leave Firth of Forth for Scapa Flow internment, rest of fleet follows (until November 27).

Home Fronts

Britain: Parliament dissolves. Bulk of lighting restrictions lifted. Out-of-Work Donation Scheme begins (24s per week, disabled servicemen to get more). 2 months paper allowed for year ending February 28.
