US destroyer Kearny (DD-432) was also damaged by a German U-boat
The US destroyer Kearny (DD-432) was also damaged by a German U-boat (U-568) near Iceland in October 1941. But this ship could be towed to Reykjavik, where she can be seen near the repair ship Vulcan.

Sea War

Atlantic: REUBEN JAMES INCIDENT. U-boat U-552 sinks US destroyer Reuben James (part of US escort group accompanying British convoy); 95 killed.
Merchant shipping losses in October 1941: 45 Allied ships with 195,886 tons in Atlantic, 6 Allied ship with 22,403 tons elsewhere.
12 Axis ships with 49,565 tons in Mediterranean.
2 U-boats sunk in the Atlantic, Arctic or Baltic. 80 serviceable U-boats in Atlantic.

Russian Front

Operation BarbarossaSiege of Leningrad: electricity supplies greatly reduced; many factories have closed down; no electric light for domestic consumers.
Germans capture Simferopol (Crimea).
