Channel: British MGBs engage German coastal convoys off Cherbourg and in Straits of Dover. German shore batteries open fire at Cherbourg.

USA – Roosevelt declares in one of his broadcast Fireside Chats: ‘This is the toughest war of all time.’ But, he adds, Americans are tough enough to meet this unprecedented challenge and the decision has already been taken to launch a great offensive (i.e., Operation Torch).
