Seen amid the strong winter’s snow of 1944-45 at Strubby, in Lincolnshire, this Lancaster bomber has an impressive bomb log and the name ‘DUMBO’ on its nose.

Merchant shipping losses in December 1944: 19 Allied ships with 91,097 tons in the Atlantic, 7 Allied ships with 43,816 tons elsewhere.
43 Japanese ships with 188,287 tons in Pacific.
11 U-boats sunk in the Atlantic, Arctic or Baltic (worldwide total of 14 losses), 26 new U-boats operational, 452 U-boats of all types total in service.
Total Shipping Losses 1944:
Allied and Neutral: 205 ships totaling 1,062,411 t.
Axis: 239 U-boats, 54 Japanese submarines.
