Pacific – AMERICANS LAND IN LINGAYEN GULF 172 km from Manila (Operation Mike I). 70 Japanese Shinyo suicide boats attack invasion fleet (night January 9-10).
Irish Sea: German U-boat U-1055 sinks 4 ships.
