German infantrymen shoot at a Russian plane. Even to the albeit ramshackle little aircraft of 1914, just with rifle fire there was not much success.
War Diary of World War One for Wednesday, November 18, 1914:

Eastern Front

East Prussia: Russians beaten at Soldau.
Poland: Russians retreat on Lowicz, 150,000 men near Lodz encircled on 3 sides by 250,000 Germans; Grand Duke Nicholas countermands retreat order. Indecisive fighting north of Cracow on a 16-mile front.

Western Front

Patrol skirmishes at various points.

Southern Fronts

Serbia: Austrian Sixth Army attacks Serb Second Army at Choka.

Middle East

Sinai: First skirmish, 20 Bikanir Camel Corps men escape from 200 Bedouin at Katia, 20 miles (ca. 32 km) east of Kantara (Suez Canal).

Sea War

Black Sea: 14-minutes action in fog between returning Russian bombardment squadron and Goeben and Breslau, 20 miles (ca. 32 km) off the Crimea. Goeben (1 hit, 12 sailors killed) and Russian flagship Evstafi damaged (4 hits, 28 casualties).
Norway: German auxiliary mine layer Berlin interned at Trondheim for duration of war.

Air War

Western Front: 1st Wing, Royal Flying Corps, formed at St Omer from Nos 2 and 3 Squadrons under Lieutenant-Colonel H M Trenchard, to operate with Indian Corps and IV Corps of BEF.

Secret War

Arabia: Captain Shakespear leaves IEF’D’, reaches Kuwait on mission to Ibn Saud (joins him on December 31).

Home Fronts

France: Government returns from Bordeaux to Paris (completed on December 10).
