Air War

Germany: 500 B-17 Fortress and 100 B-24 Liberator bombers, heavily escorted by P-38 Lightning and P-47 Thunderbolt escort-fighters, bomb Wilhelmshaven through dense cloud using H2X (‘Mickey-Mouse’) radar.

Eastern Front

Southern Sector: Russian 2nd Ukraine Front launches final assault on outnumbered and outgunned German garrison of Kiev.
